Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich: There's nothing quite like the great tasting American classic BLT sandwich. To many, it brings back warm memories of childhood afternoons with family like no other food. It's simple to prepare with just a few ingredients, but it satisfies as if it took hours. When you think about it, the BLT has a delicious mix of flavors, texture and freshness. It is hard to match.
A Bacon Pro bacon cooker will help you reduce the time it takes to cook enough bacon to produce the perfect BLTs. It also saves clean-up time, so you can serve this great American classic without all of the work.
6 Servings
Ingredients:
1 lb of bacon (approx. 20 slices)
12 slices of white bread
12 leaves of iceberg lettuce
12 slices of vine ripened tomatoes (field grown when in season)
12 tablespoons Hellmann's mayonnaise
2 tablespoons of coarse-ground black pepper
Directions:
Cook bacon on the Bacon Pro bacon cooker until crisp
Lightly toast 12 slices of bread
Spread approximately 1 tablespoon of mayo on each slice of toast
Add 1 leaf of lettuce on top of the mayo-spreaded toast
Add 2 slices of tomato on top of the lettuce and add some coarse-ground pepper
Arrange 3 slices of bacon (doubled over just like it comes off the Bacon Pro) on the bottom slice of each sandwich
Add 1 leaf of lettuce on top of the bacon
Top-off with another mayo'd slice of toast
The bacon comes off the bacon cooker doubled over. For BLTs, leave it doubled over. That way you'll have a double layer of bacon. Three or four slices of bacon is all you'll need for a great tasting sandwich. Some forgo the 2nd leaf of lettuce and the toasting of the bread. The texture and flavor of the bacon seems to shine through more when the bread is not toasted. Enjoy with everyone and as always, bacon all around. . .
